FREEDOM ENCOUNTER SESSION 4
ARE YOU REALLY FREE?
Being tempted doesn’t mean you’re still in bondage
Temptations will come, but remember…
1 Corinthians 10:13 -
“The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.“
Staying close to God and tapping into the power of the Holy Spirit is key
“So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” - John 8:36
Deliverance can only remove demonic strongholds, but you need to replace old habits with new, righteous ones
LEARN TO APPRECIATE, EMBRACE, AND CELEBRATE RIGHTEOUSNESS
RIGHTEOUSNESS = FREEDOM
Sometimes shame and condemnation will haunt you
Romans 8:1-2: “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.”
One of the enemy’s favorite tactics is to convince you that you are NOT forgiven and free.
You can experience victory, but sometimes there’s still grief, continued self-awareness, healing, facing your fears, building new muscles, and managing TRIGGERS
WHAT are triiggers
WHY we keep encoutering them
HOW to manage them
Realize that they no longer have power over you
Just because a situation feels similar, doesn’t mean it’s the same
You now have access to the Holy Spirit to help you
If possible, don’t keep yourself in environments where you will keep getting triggered
If I didn’t have a manifestation, am I free?
WALK BY THE SPIRIT
Galatians 5:16
“So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh”
If we keep feeding and strengthening our spirit, our appetite for sins lessens. A strong appetite for sin is an indication that we are not feeding and walking by the Spirit.
Some practical ways to walk by the Spirit (extend with everyday examples; and tangible changes - i.e. disposing of triggers)
Can look like…
Partnering with the Holy Spirit for righteousness EVERYDAY (partner with the Spirit to step out in faith, not in fear; ask the Holy Spirit for the grace
Reading the Word to know God
Spending time with God in Prayer
Being intentional in private and corporate worship
Strengthening one another in community/Accountability
RENEWING THE MIND
Truth versus True (facts) - Learn to separate the facts from the truth - “This is true about my life, but this is the truth about who God is and who God says I am.”
“Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:32
Any belief that is not setting us free is not the truth, it may be a fact but not the truth. We need to learn to believe and declare the truth of God in our daily lives.
Our feelings and what others see don’t equal our identity. Our Identity is in Christ as a new creation and we wanna grow from that (From Victory)
Practice Renewing of the mind
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” (Romans 12:2)
