MAIN PRINCIPLES
3. Maal as amanah
- must be spent properly - not extravagant, excessive, wasteful or prohibitive, miserly or hidden
2. Al-Falah:
- true success is mardhatillah
- all expenses must be sycronize and not against Allah
- resources, property, energy and time must be used for His way and not for personal interest.
1. Belief in the hereafter: -
- the meaning of life is deeper
- individual behavior derived from the belief in the afterlife
- afterlife spending: spending for invisible benefits
MEASUREMENTS:
2. Purity: In Islam, an item that can be consumed must have the characteristics of being tayyib (good, clean wholesome and pure). Conventional: goods are considered as ones that have economic utility and can be exchanged in the market
3. Moderation: Islam does not prohibit its followers from obtaining the wealth. Islam strongly emphasizes the concept of moderation in all things and prohibits the act of excessive wealth. - this due to the attitude can lead to waste. (Al A'raf: 31)
1. Ownership: - Islam allows good consumption, including the halal and toyyib, good intention and the way of consumption must be for the good purpose.
4. Maslahah: means advantages or interests. As the need to balance between individual and public benefits (society) maslahah. Back to maqasid that objective Shariah is to bring benefit and refusing damage.
5. Sprititual and Akhlaq:
- Consumerism must increase spirituality and morality
- abstaining from using things that are haram, eating and drinking in the month of Ramadan as an exercise in spiritual formation

OBJECTIVE: Based on the role of an individual on this earth, the objective of a consumer is thus the maximization of well-being (al-Falah) by seeking the pleasure of Allah SWT through submission to His will and the pursuit of means and ends that would please Him in one’s consumption behavior.
CONSUMER BEHAVIOUR
ISLAMIC:
- Role of individual: servants and vice grant.
- Being rational: Uses wealth to derive the highest level of well-being
- Objective of consumer: Maximise well-being in one’s consumption behavior (by seeking the pleasure of Allah
- Guiding Principles: Set upon by Allah and Sunnah. All consumers follow the same rule
Level of Consumption: Moderation
- Characteristics of Goods: Toyyibat
- Responsibility: Individual, social and moral
CONVENTIONAL:
- Role of individual: Wealth is taken as the individual’s own and one is only accountable to oneself.
- Being rational: Uses wealth to derive the highest level of economic utility.
- Objective of consumer: maximize utility in one’s consumption behavior.
- Guiding Principles: Guided by consumer’s own preferences and tastes which are based on one’s own values and judgements and
Every consumer is differing preferences
- Level of Consumption: The higher the level of consumption, the greater is the utility
- Characteristics of Goods: Not abide to any specific characteristics
- Responsibility: Mostly individual
