Food waste
Impacts of food waste
Greenhouse gas emissions
As thrown away food begin to decompose or rot, it releases methane - a greenhouse gas that is about 25 times more effective at trapping heat in the atmosphere than CO2.
With methane released in the production proccession and also while decomposing, scientists believe that this can contribute a large part global warming and climate change.
Food waste in the US produces greenhouse gas emissions of more than 42 coal-fired power plants each year

Solutions to food waste
At home
-
If there are leftovers, store them carefully and remember to eat them before they turn bad
-
-
At public places
Only take what is needed - just because you're at an all-you-can-eat buffet doesn't mean you should take more than you can eat to "get your money's worht"
If you are at a restaurant, share a meal with someone since their portions are usually quite large
