Description
The first Australians were Aborigines. They came to Australia about 40,000 years ago. The Aborigines hunted animals and gathered plants for food. Many of them died when Europeans came to Australia. More than 300,000 Aboriginal people live in Australia today.
Cause & effect
The Central Lowlands have flat, grassy land. This grassy land is good for raising sheep and cattle. But this land is too dry for farming.
Compare & contrast
Many cities are on Australia’s east coast. A few of them are Brisbane, Sydney, and Canberra. Canberra is Australia’s capital city. Sydney has more people than any other city in Australia.
Main idea: Australia is one of the biggest country with a large land area, located in the continent of Oceania and near to Asia.
Reading strategy implemented to find the main idea: I have used the reading srategy re-reading to understand the text more clearly, and summarizing to understand the big picture and what it is about.
