        A hard concept during the time of slavery was that everyone claimed to follow religion so closely and truthfully, but when faced with the facts of what the bible truly states, i.e not slavery, it left many curious as to what people were actually choosing to abide by
        
        Phyllis Wheatley: Was a black poet/ slave in the 1600s, who even though she was faced with racism, slavery, and many trials and tribulations, used religion and poems to shoe empathy for the white mothers who lost their children. Wrote poems such as "On the death of a Young Gentleman".
