Having a younger sibling and having to take care of her when my parents failed to caused me to mature early

My parents never showed me a solid, healthy relationship which has impacted how I view relationships.
My aunt was the only family that I could rely on and receive support from, I aspire to be like her
My parents would regularly call me negative things which made me question myself and if they were right
Attachment styles are formed from your parents and have lots of impacts on relationships later in life, like mine does
My family struggles with mental illness which helped me identify that I wanted to major in psychology

Friends
Schön: One of my best friends from high school and one of my strongest support systems even after graduating
Deanna: My best friend since pre-school who's basically my sister, she always helps me see new parts of my personality
Naomi: Another best friend I've known for a few months, but she's changed my perspective about so many things in life
My high school friend group helped me to see new parts of myself since I interacted with everyone differently
Hannah: An ex best friend that brought up some qualities in me that I didn't like and have worked to change
Roommates have shown me how I deal with difficult situations and how I navigate living with basically strangers
Cameron: My boyfriend who helped me learn more about myself as well as heal tendencies I have from childhood

Choosing to study psychology has allowed me to meet a lot of people and have a lot of great opportunities

I've been able to get closer with my aunt and grandparents which helps me feel more secure about my family
Being alone in college has also taught me a lot more life skills and that I'm capable of more than I thought
I had an unhealthy friend group and I had to teach myself to distance from people who only bring negativity
It's been hard to make friends since I'm really quiet and introverted, so I've learned to be content being alone

Jobs and experiences
Harris Teeter taught me a lot about how I handle stress and conflict, and I met some of my best friends there
Library job at JMU taught me how to balance multiple responsibilities and activities at the same time
I worked in a summer school as my first job, it taught me a lot about the workplace environment and what to expect

Volunteering a lot in high school helped give me a sense of responsibility and realize I like volunteering

Social media/Technology

Being able to stay connected with friends improves my mood but also makes me put in effort to stay connected with others
Sometimes I forget to respond to people, which can ruin some relationships I have to be responsible to remember
Being able to talk to friends whenever also shows me who my real friends are and who tries to stay connected
Hearing misinformation can damage relationships since you listen to advice from strangers online, it makes me anxious

I've learned a lot about myself from these experiences such as what I want in relationships and what my standards are

Friend breakups have shown me what I want in a friend but also how to let someone go when they don't respect me
Dating in friend groups made me feel like I had to act different and change my behavior around friends

Mental health

ADHD can impact my school work but also made my parents call me lazy all the time and influence my perception
Helping others deal with their mental health made me push my needs to the side and I'm still learning not to do that

Asian Culture
Growing up with different superstitions and spiritual beliefs was hard since I often felt judged and ashamed for it
Having kids make fun of my culture and Chinese food negatively influenced how I saw my culture and background

JMU has lots of clubs and activities for Asian students, it helps me feel accepted and understood

Art and music

Being in CFPA also showed me who my real friends are since it created so much competition between us
Going to a performing arts high school helped me discover some of my interests like music and photography
