HOW ARE MINERALS CLASSIFIED
HOW MINERALS ARE FORMED
MINERALS
The tempeture also affects which minerals form
there are many different minerals which depend on the which elements are present in the area on which they form
minerals form within earth or on it's surface thanks to different natural processes
minerals have a crystalline structure because they are composed of crystals
Examples of minerals that are organic: wood or kidney stones
minerals form in many different natural processes
Examples of minerals that are inorganic: clam shells
most common classification of minerals is based on chemical composition
divided into two groups

Minerals can form as magma cools, by metamorphism or by solutions
-new minerals are formed when temperature and pressure break and reform bonds between atoms ⚛
-as magma cools atoms found in minerals join together to form different minerals 🌋
-when water evaporates the substances in the water turn into solids and come out of solution. 🚰
Minerals can also form from hot water solutions, as hot water cools the substances it has dissolved can form into minerals
minerals are divided into two groups based on their composition: Silicate minerals and a non silicate minerals
minerals are usually inorganic and sometimes organic substences
Silicate minerals: minerals that contain a combination of oxygen and silicon
Nonsilicate minerals: that do not contain the silicates tetrahedron
CRYSTALS
a crystal's shape is determined by the kind of atoms or molecules that makes up the mineral and the conditions under which it forms
is a solid, geometric form that results from a repeating pattern of atoms or molecules
INNER PARTS OF EARTH
mantle (semi-liquid and solid)
crust (solid)
outer core (liquid)
inner core (solid)
ROCKS
When a river starts to slow down all the rocks, pebbles and sediments drop to the river bed, over time more sediments accumulate. Their weight presses and sticks them together, and sedimentary rock is formed.
Igneous rock forms when hot molten rock cools and hardens. There are two main types: extrusive (these form when magma flows onto the earths surface) and intrusive (these form from magma below the earths surface in the crust)
Existing rocks that are subjected to large amounts of heat and/or pressure can change into another type of rock called metamorphic rock.
There are three basic types of rock: igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic.
a rock is a solid collection of minerals (it is made up of one or more minerals)
