Scrooge begins with challenging the authoirty of the spirits, the Ghost of Christmas past is the main one that he challenges as he begins his path to redemption.
Scrooge does this by questioning the spirit, which is presented to be wise which highlights the authority and power it seems to have over Scrooge.
