Global Inequalities
Stereotype - False or generalized ideas about a group of people that results in categorizing members without regard for individual differences.
Prejudice - a preconceived set of opinions, beliefs or attitudes that do not take relevant facts into account.
Discrimination - Inequitable treatment of people based on prejudices associated with personal characteristics
Systematic Discrimination - The policies and practices in an organization that result in the inequitable treatment of members.
Genocide - The organized systemic destruction of an identifiable group by those with the power to do so.

Theory of Globalization
Modernization Theory - The idea that humans can develop and change their society, and that this change is made possible by advancements in technology and other areas of the industry. Stage like shift from developing nations to developed societies.
Dependency Theory - The economies and cultures of developing countries are distorted to meet the needs of developed countries. The trade terms between developed and developing countries are unbalanced and unfair.
World-System Theory - World systems should be the focus of social theory on economic development. The capitalist world economy is a global system in which there is an international division of labour that separates the world into s hierarchy of three types of nations.
New International Divison of Labour Theory - A global division of labour associated with the growth of transnational corporations and the deindustrialization of advanced economies. Examines EPZs which are export processing zones where regions’ trade barriers are reduced and eliminated. This is where most factories are located. Examines the way production processes are relocated to new countries.

Causes of Prejudices
Ignorance
Modelling/Socialization - Copied attitudes or actions that we see throughout our lives. These can develop from the media or from parents' and friends' attitudes.

In-group/Out-group bias - Regard the groups that we belong to more favourable terms than the groups we do not belong to.
Fear
Memory Availability - Incidents related to a group or individual has transfered our impression of these individuals or whole group.
Feelings of Inferiority - Feelings of inferiority create internal threats to self-esteem, for some the response to this is to put others down to raise their self-image.
Scapegoating - When a logical cause for unpleasant experiences is not available, people find an easy target for the blame.

Hate Crimes - A prejudice-motivated crime, usually violent, which occurs when a perpetrator targets a victim because of their membership (or perceived membership) in a certain social group or race.

Privilege - a special right or advantage that is given to a specific person or group based on a characteristic that they possess
