Myocardial Infacrtion
Symptoms
Severe pain in chest
if hx of Angina does not respond
to nitroglycerin
palpitations
cyanosis
tachycardia
diaphoresis
pulse thready
dyspnea
weakness
Emergency Care
Arrhythmias:
do not administer drugs unless EKG
is on site
Sudden cardiac arrest
administer BLS
Transfer to hospital
Causes
Occlusion of
coronary vessels
Recovery/Deterioration
Signs
Recovery:
appears stabled, pain lessens,
need for transport hospital necessary
Deteriorating:
cardiac/respiratory arest
loss of consciousness
CPR fails
Difference b/w Angina &AMI
AP: myocardial ischemia from inadequate blood to heart by coronary vessels
AMI: necrosis portion of myocardium due total/partial occlusion of coronary artery
PABCD Treatment
P: Upright/semi-reclining
A/B: Activate EMS, BLS,
Administer oxygen nasal cannula
(4-6L/minute/flow rate) OR
face mask 15 L/minute
C: Monitor Pulse
Proceed w/CPR ONLY pt
shows signs of cardiac arrest
Administer: aspirin
160-325 mg (chewed)
