Signs of bullying
belongings getting 'lost' or damaged
physical injuries, such as unexplained bruises.
being afraid to go to school
not doing as well at school
Being nervous, loosing confidence, or becoming distressed and withdrawn
problems with eating/sleeping
Signs of child sexual exploitation
They may not know where they are, because they've been moved around the country, and seem frightened, confused or angry.
A child might know they're being sexually exploited. They might be worried or confused and less likely to speak to an adult they trust.
Signs of child trafficking
spend a lot of time doing household chores
be orphaned or living away from family
not to be registered to a school or GP.
live in low-standard accommodation
have money or things you wouldn't expect them to have.
been seen in inappropriate places like brothels
Signs of domestic abuse
aggression or bullying
anti-social behavior
bed-wetting, nightmares or insomnia
eating disorders
anxiety, depression or suicidal thoughts
Signs of neglect
Poor appearance and hygiene
health and development problems
housing and family issues
change in behavior
Signs of grooming
being very secretive about how they're spending there time, including when online.
having an older girlfriend or boyfriend
being upset, withdrawn or distressed
sexualised behavior, language or an understanding of sex that's not appropriate for their age.
Signs of FGM
having difficulty walking, standing or sitting.
spending longer in the toilet.
Appearing quiet, anxious or depressed.
Asking for help – though they might not be explicit about the problem because they're scared or embarrassed.
