Geography

Nile River - The Nile River affected Egyptians culture and society in many positive ways. The river provided food and resources, land for agriculture, a way of travel, and was essential in the transportation of materials for building projects and other large-scale labor.
Sinai Peninsula - The Sinai Peninsula was the main section where mining of turquoise was carried out in Ancient Egypt.
Eastern Desert - The Eastern Desert was a natural barrier which protected Egypt. The desert contributed to the development of Egyptian society through its generous minerals and vagabond route to the Red Sea
Agriculture
Papyrus - Papyrus was an extremely adaptable crop that grew wild and was also cultivated. The roots of the plant were eaten as food, but it was essentially used as a modern crop. The stem of the plant was used to make boats, mats, and paper.
Vegetables - Ancient Egyptians grew a variety of vegetables. They grew alongside the banks of the Nile River on the rich black soil, or the kemet which was left behind from the yearly flood.
Irrigation - The Egyptians dug channels and walls to divert water away from cities and into farming areas.

Society
Upper Class - The Upper Class of the social pyramid included the pharaoh, government officials, and gods/goddesses
Middle Class - In the middle class, soldiers, scribes, & merchants are in this section of the pyramid

Lower Class - On the very bottom of the pyramid craftsmen, peasants, slaves and farmers were included
Religion
Set - God of the Desert, Storms, & Evil; A mean & tricky god. Set was the strongest god, but also very jealous of his brother Osiris. He became pharaoh after killing his brother, but was later overthrown by his nephew Horus.
Osiris - God of the Underworld; A wise & good Pharaoh after taking over from Ra. Osiris’s brother, Set killed him out of jealousy. Isis spent years looking for the pieces of Osiris. Eventually, she found them and put Osiris back together.
Isis - The Goddess of Magic; Isis, a clever & ambitious woman who was the wife of Osiris. She tricked Ra, the Sun God, into retiring by poisoning him with a magic snake.

Pyramids - Egypt’s pyramids are very important to their culture. They were made thousands of years ago as tombs for the civilization’s pharaohs and are still standing today. There are approximately 118 pyramids and each one may have taken 15-30 years to build. The pyramids are a reminder of the Egyptians' glorification after death.
Hieroglyphics - Ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics was one of the first written languages. It helped Egypt record its data and keep track of things. The hieroglyphics were a very important achievement in Egypt’s history and a reason why we understand it so well today.
