While sailing on a ship with his uncle and father, they sailed into a foggy storm. Due to the chaos Marco fell off the ship into the water. To find Marco his family called out Marco and he replied with Polo. By doing this they were able to find Marco.
People started playing this game in the 1960’s but there is a probability that it was also played during Marco’s time.
The game Marco Polo is played typically in a swimming pool. The main rule is that one player is it, and they close their eyes while the other players hide somewhere in the pool. The player this is it will then say Marco while the other players say Polo. The goal is for the it player to tag the other players with their eyes closed.
Early Life

In 1271 Marco’s father, uncle, and him left for the Mongol court.

Travels took them through Erzurum ( eastern Turkey) and Tabriz (northern Iran) and through deserts to reach Hormuz on the Persian Gulf and many more.
Marco was raised by extended relatives because his father and uncle were on a long-term expedition and the death of his mother.
Traveled on the Silk Road, meeting many people of different religions until they reached the Mongol court in 1274-1275.

Became an inspector of custom duties and revenues collected from the trades in salt and other goods.

Marco also got to see how Kublai Khan’s postal service was very efficient. They used post-horses and the riders to deliver the mail. There were also couriers that would run station to station to pass on a message to the next runners.
Europeans at that time had never seen paper money before so when Marco saw how the Chinese used paper money made from the bark of mulberry trees.
