Christianity vs Hinduism :
FOUNDER
Hinduism has no founder but it was built because it is made up of different cultures from different groups combined
Christianity was founded by Jesus Christ who was the Son of God
GOD AND BELIEFS
Hindus believe that when people are enlightened, they return to Brahman and they are released from the endless cycle of rebirth and death
Christians believe that if they want to be saved on Judgement Day, they must follow and obey God's will
Hindus believe in many Gods and many of them worship different Gods in order to reach enlightenment
Christianity believes in a single God who is the most powerful and also the creator of everything in the universe. They also believe in the Holy Trinity
SACRED TEXT
Hinduism has many sacred texts such as the Vedas which teaches Hindus ways how to reach enlightenment and be released from samsara
Hindus also have the Bhagavad Gita which teaches Hindus to live a moral life and do whatever is good
The Bible is a book comprised of many different books such as the Old and New Testaments that teach Christians how to live in accordance to God's will
Christianity's sacred text is called the Bible. It contains all the words of God, the teachings of Jesus Christ and all the laws and rules that Christians must follow
SIGNIFICANT HISTORY
Hinduism's significant history is when there sacred texts appeared during 1500 BCE. It shapes today's Hinduism because they all follow these texts in order to be enlightened
Christ's disciples also spread the word out which made more believe in what God could do. The religion also split up into many groups
A significant history that happened for Christianity is when Christ died and was resurrected. This event further intensified their faith which continues to this day
PRAYERS
Christians conduct their worship during sundays but some do it on other days and more than once a week. Their traditional pose when praying is kneeling with their hands folded in front of them. It is a very important ritual
Hindus pray to and worship their Gods everyday but they do not have to go to a place of worship in order to do this. Prayer is a very important ritual of Hindus
SPIRITUAL TIME
Christians celebrate festivals in order to strengthen their faith and so that they won't forget their traditions and history. Some of their festivals are Lent and Easter
Some of the Hindu festivals are Diwali, Holi, Mahashivaratri and Navaratri. These festivals celebrate the victories against dark forces or evil forces. These festivals help Hindus to do good
RITUALS AND MILESTONES
Some rituals of Christianity are the sacred sacraments. They have baptism, marriage, holy orders, anointing of the sick, holy communion, confirmation and reconciliation.
Some of the rituals of Hinduism are meditation, yoga, puja, prayers, chanting the name of their Gods and reading sacred text
Some rituals of Christianity is done at a young age while some is performed when they are adults
All of these rituals can help Hindus reach enlightenment
MORAL CODES
Hindus believe in gaining karma. Karma is the totality of one's actions. They believe that doing good deeds help them gain good karma and reach enlightenment faster
Christianity believes that committing sins is against what God wants so they must do good. They follow laws such as the Ten Commandments in order to live a moral life and they believe that committing sins can lead to hell
Hindus also follow the 5 yamas: Ahimsa, Satya, Asteya, Brahmacharya and Aparigha
MODERN ISSUES
Some of the modern issues that Christianity have are the events of residential schools, in some denominations, LGBTQ +, marriage, abortion and euthenasia are issues as well
Some issues of Hinduism are the Caste System, social justice, equality rights and gender discrimination
BELIEFS
Christianity believes in the second coming of Jesus Christ, this is when they would be truly saved and be reincarnated in heaven
Hindus believe in the endless cycle of suffering which is samsara and that the only way to escape this cycle is to be enlightened and be reunited with Brahman, the universal soul
Reaching enlightenment and escaping samsara is the main goal of Hindus and they also believe that time has no beginning or end
So Christians do everything in order to ensure that they would be saved, by doing what God wants from them
FAMILY ROLE
The role of the father is to be the source of strength and discipline while the mother is supposed to be the source of security in the family for Christians
Hindu parents teach their kids about the religion such as the traditions, rituals and what they should do at a young age so that reaching enlightenment would be faster
SYMBOLS OR GESTURES
Some symbols for Christianity is the cross. The cross symbolizes the death of Jesus in the cross and that through that death their sins are forgiven
Another important symbol for Christianity is the fish which symbolizes resurrection and eternity after resurrection
A sacred symbol for Hindus is the sacred syllable Om because they believe that it is the sound of the universe and they recite it during meditation
Namaste is a gesture for Hindus. This gesture is a greeting that means "I bow to you because I recognize the divine in you".
SACRED SPACE
Hindus have the mandir which is a temple where they go to worship but they can also pray and worship at home
Christianity's sacred space is the church where they conduct their prayers and worship services
SIMILARITIES
Both religions have a place of worship. A church for Christians and a temple or mandir for Hindus
Both religions believe that doing bad deeds have consequences. Christians believe that if they commit sins they would go to hell and Hindus believe that they won't be enlightened
Both religions believe in an ultimate force that created everything and the origin of everything. The Lord God for Christians and Brahman for Hindus
Both believe in three entities with God like aspects who carry out God's will. Trinity for Christians and the Hindu Triad for Hindus
Christianity and Hinduism both believe in salvation from suffering. Hindus' salvation is enlightenment while Christianity's salvation is the death and second coming of Jesus
DIFFERENCES
Hindus are polytheistic, Christians are not
Hindus believe that people will be reincarnated again on earth as a mortal but Christians do not
Hindus suggest that living on earth is an illusion that keeps them from attaining salvation, Christians do not
Hindus believe that everything has been destroyed and reborn countless times but Christians do not
Hindus do not have to go to a place of worship in order to worship there Gods, they can do it at home but Christians can't do that
UNIQUE STRENGTHS
One of the unique things about Hinduism is that they support everyone to have their own freedom of thought, feeling and individual beliefs.
They do not have strict doctrines and encourages everyone to find a way to be enlightened on their own. It's part of their goal, to do everything necessary to be enlightened :
Some unique strengths of Christianity is their unity and loyalty to God. They do everything to devote themselves to what God's will is
They are also very united, they help each other so that no one would be left behind when Jesus comes on Judgement Day
MORE COMPELLING RELIGION
I think that Christianity is a more compelling religion because they stay loyal to their God and do everything they can to please Him so that they would be saved.
They are also united and helps each other which is a kind gesture and shows that they care for each other
