CONSERVATISM:

CATHOLICISM:
- The bible is inspired by God
- Apostolic tradition: stems from Jesus' apsotles- Jesus told them to preach the gospels and make more disciples
- Apostolic succession- Jesus' apostles appointed bishops to be their successors and the bishops were given teaching authority which established a line of succession lasting to the end of time
- Tradition is seen as a living tradition- tradition is seen as dynamic- new truths can be revealed in scripture
- The bible is there to share the same divine authority- scripture is the voice of god
- Both scripture and tradition have equal authority- the magisterium interpret both
NEO-ORTHODOXY:
- Reject conservative belief in biblical inerrancy largely because modern forms of studying the bible suggest parts of it aren't true due to historical & scientific errors
- E.G creation of Genesis was a re-write of an older Babylonian myth
- Bible contains apparent contradictions E.G mark says anybody who divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery, but in Matthew Jesus says than except from unfaithfulness, it is adultery
- Barth- bible isn't the word of God but contains the word of god- christianity is gods attempt to reach humanity
God doesnt reveal himself in words of the bible , but through Jesus who is the word
LIBERALISM:
- Reject any idea that the bible is literally the inspired word of god

- process theologians: argue for the discrepancies between the bible and science
- the bible is an entirely human document about god and his purpose for the world
- rejects any idea that the bible contains any scientific knowledge or humans or the universe
- God is nit omnipotent, he only persuaded matter
