Naming rules(Andrew)
Single charge cations
Groups 1,2,13 and Ag, Cd, and ZN
- Use name of cation. 2. Use name of anion(it has the ending "ide")
Ionic compounds
- The two types of ions 2. The charge on each ion
Multiple charge cations
Pb, SN and the transition element(but, not Ag, Cd, or Zn
- Figure out charge on cation 2. write name of cation 3. write Roman numerals in () to show cation's charge 4. write name of anion

Intermolecular Force
Dipole-dipole Force
- Present between polar covalent molecules
London Dispersion Force
- Between any molecule
- Acts as a main force between non-polar covalent molecules
- As mass increases, strength increases
Hydrogen Bond
- Strongest intermolecular force
- Present between polar covalent molecules
- Must have hydrogen bonded with N, O, or F
Polarity
-
-
100% nonpolar bonds -> ALWAYS non-polar molecule
At least one polar bond -> Can be either non-polar or polar molecule
Polar bonds and non-polar molecule
- Central atom is surrounded by same elements only
- No lone pairs around central atom(exceptions: (2, 3) and (4, 2))
