The Labour Party
Brown and Miliband
Economic: Nationalised vulnerable banks and pumped money into banks in general to keep the economy running. Created 50% band for tax for £150,000+ earners.
Law & Order: Promised social policies to be on an equal ground for everyone, links to Old Labour decriminalising homosexuality and abortion in 1967.
Welfare: Miliband wwanted to imcrease NHS funding and Brown wanted to maintain public spending to starve the economy and prolongue the economic downfall.
New Labour
Economic: Introduced a minimum wage of £3.60 for adults. The Gini Coefficient showed that little progress was made in redistribution of wealth (33.4 to 33.2).
Law & Order: Human Rights Act 1998 provided a step towards positive rights. Pro EU as they adopted policies concerning the protection of worker's rights.
Welfare: 1997-2009 impatient care waiting fell from 13.4 weeks to 4 weeks. Spent £75 million on schools in depriveed areas.
Keir Starmer
Economic: Nationalisation of key industries like trains and continue redistributing tax and income to narrow the inequality gap.
Law & Order: Root out anti semitism in the Labour Party. Stregnthen employment protection (continuing Old Labour's Law and Order policy).
Welfare: Increase public spending in public services like health and education. End outsourcing of the NHS and keep the public service in public hands.
Jeremy Corbyn
Economic: Supported the 50% income tax and wanted large scale funding of industries by using the national investment bank.
Law & Order: Thought that cuts to police spending jeopardised public safety. Opposed increased powers created to combat terrorism.
Welfare: Opposed tution fees and the use of the private sector to fund the NHS. Called the poor 'victims of capitalism' and that they need public support.
Old Labour
Economic: Nationalised Key industries like coal and steel (main british trade exports). Redistribution of wealth and income to the public sector.
Law & Order: Decriminalised homosexuality and abortion in 1967 and ended the death penalty in 1965. Wanted more rights for worker's.
Welfare: Created the NHS in 1946 after the Beveridge Report in 1942. Wanted more working class MPs in HoC to fight for more representation and worker's rights.
