Identifying a Struggling Student in Class
Things to Look Out For:
👀
Does the student have difficulty following repeated basic instructions?
Does the student have issues with keeping their desk area organized?
Is the student wearing their clothes correctly?
Does the student have issues submitting homework?
When talking with the student, can they maintain eye contact?
Is the student abnormally forgetful?
When the student is drawing do they consistently only use dark colors like black and deep purple?
Teacher Student in Class Interview:

(If a student or students have these issues interview the student.)
Ask the student about their thoughts and feelings in class.
Ask the student about how they are at home.
School Counselor:
Depending on the case, a School Counselor can be present for this interview.
Legal Guardian Notification
Contact Book:
📖 If you have identified a struggling student in your class use the student contact book to communicate the issue or issues with their legal guardian.
Teacher Communication: 📢
If the student or students continue to struggle, communicate with the grade leader, all teachers in your grade, and the head of special needs about the issue.
Legal Guardian Teacher Meeting:
Set up a parent teacher meeting after communicating with the grade leader, the head of special needs, and other teachers.
Do not directly tell the legal guardians that the student needs to see an outside specialist or that they need in school special needs care.
Talk with the legal guardians about the student's in school performance. Ask the legal guardians about how the student or students are at home. Gather information and build rapport.
Special Needs Program Entry Preparation
The Principle Gives Permission to Tell The Legal Guardians About The Special Needs Program:
The principle, school counselor, and the special needs team all believe that the student or students needs the special needs program. The principle gives permission to tell the parents

Serious Issues
For Serious Issues:
In certain cases, it may seem that the student or students require an outside specialist to work with them. In these cases, a meeting with the legal guardians will be needed.
Do not directly tell the legal guardians that the student needs to see an outside specialist or that they need in school special needs care.
Again, talk with the legal guardians about the student's in school performance. Ask the legal guardians about how the student or students are at home. Gather information and build rapport.

:warning: The Principle Can Not Give Permission to Suggest The Legal Guardians See An Outside Specialist:
In this case, the Legal guardians cannot be directly told by the school or it's leaders that the student or students need to see an outside specialist. With the principle's permission, they can still suggest the school's special needs program to them.
