When a concern arises teachers refer to SEND checklist - ex. below
Make a referral to the school SENDCo
SENDCo to make initial assessment - review data, observation, teacher and PLT meeting, book checks
Diagnostic screening
No further action needed
Monitor - SENDCo provides teacher with suggestions to support the child
Level 1 - Mild - Additional support given
Level 2 - Medium - additional support given and pupil profile (targets)
Level 3 - Sever - Additional support, specialist support, IEP
Continue to observe students behaviours and use methods from the checklist to support student until assessment
Incorporate measures to support students from the start
Small group sessions
Differentiate activities
Consistent routine
'Calm corner'
Possible signs to identify a struggling child
Struggles with attention and listening
Struggles to articulate expressive language
Poor emotional control
Speech difficulties eg. lisp, stutter
Hyper-active
Low impulse control
Difficulties with reading and writing
