Robinson Crusoe
setting --> most of the story takes places in the island, an ideal place for Robinson to show his qualities. the island resembles the English empire with Robinson as a colonizer.
characters:
Robinson --> middle class, restless (metaphor of individualism in the XVIII century England), pragmatic, rational. in his diaries we read the emotional part.
Friday --> the first native in a novel. he is actractive, lively. he is the symbol of the colonised. he is very obidient and submitted.
he writes everything on his diary, he meets Friday after 12 years, after many adventures he returns to England and finds himself rich.
style --> full of clear and precise details. the language is simple and concrete to emphasize the first-person narration.
Robinson Crusoe travels around the world, during a trip to Africa his ship wrecked on desert island. he stays for 28 years on the island
Novels
his are fictional autobiographies, told by protagonists.
the structure is made of a series of episodes and adventures, lived and told by a hero in first person narration (the authors point of view coincides with the protagonist's).
he is concidered the father of the English novel. Because the new social class was described in it (realistic novel).

A dreadful deliverance
setting: the sea and the island. the theme: confusion and anxiety both when the ship wracked and when is alone in the island. style: concrete, matter-of-fact and descriptive.
the narrator is in first person and internal: brings the reader closer to his fellings. narration with events in chronological order.
Robinson was on a ship that sank by a storm, after he fought the waves, reaches the shore. at first thanked God for saving him and than he despaired because he realized that he had only a knife, a pipe and tobacco. he was frightened of being eaten by animals, so he climbed into a tree.
Man Friday
theme: colonization, dynamic opressor-oppressed. robinson describes Friday from the point of view of the oppressor.
Robinson saves Friday fro a group of cannibals. he gives detailed description of Friday a navitive of the island. he gives Friday shelter, food and clothing than he teaches him to drink and eat properly
he gives him a name and teaches his name (master). at the end robinson also teaches the difference between right and wrong.
