The negative impacts of non-renewable resources
Fossil Fuels
Carbon Dioxide
Impact
When fossil fuels burn they release large amounts of carbon dioxide into our atmosphere. Unfortunately, too much carbon dioxide in our atmosphere can have a negative impact. As it traps heat and causes the earth's global temperature to rise
Energy Crisis
Fossil fuels are expected to run out anytime in the next 100 years, and if humans are unprepared to use alternative energy when this happens, a huge energy crisis will occur.
Oil Spills
Oil spills create have a huge negative impact on our planet as they destroy environments and kill life.
In June 2020, an oil spill from a boat in Mauritius caused 1000 tonnes of oil to spill and leak into their beautiful reef
Earth Minerals and Metals
Imact
Environmental Pollution
An example of this is how many mines release harmful substances into nature such as lithium, when lithium poisons rivers it causes all aquatic life to die.
Land Destruction
Mining minerals on the earth causes land pollution, erosion, and destruction to environment
Reef's and Coasts
Rising Sea Level
Due to the carbon emissions causing the earths global temperature to increase, ice is melting, and the sea water is expanding (due to the heat), which causes the sea level to rise
This causes coastal cities like Venice to slowly sink over time.
Coral Reef Depletion
The Reef's around the world are slowly beginning to deplete due to many negative impacts from the use of non-renewable resources
When clearing land for mining, the sediment run-off ends up in the reefs covering them and killing aquatic life.
Arctic Circle
The earths global temperature increasing is mainly caused by carbon dioxide emissions.
Melting Ice Impact
The temperature increase has caused ice in the arctic circle to melt, meaning less habitable area for polar bears, penguins and other arctic animals

The photo to the right is a photo from October 2021, of the ice in the arctic collapsing under the polar bear's weight
Pollution
Pollution of non-renewable resources has a huge impact on our planets ecosystems and life
Plastic Pollution
Over 1 million marine animals such as sharks, fish, dolphins, etc... have die from plastic pollution in the ocean each year
As of 2023, around 400 million tons of plastic is thrown away each year.
