Human Body
Digestive system
Small intestine- breaks down food into even smaller parts using enzymes from the pancreas and bile from the liver
Large intestine- receives waste from the small intestine, absorbs any remaining water, transmits waste for elimination.
Stomach- stores the food that arrives from the esophagus, brakes down food with acid and physical churning which empties into the small intestine.
-
Mouth- the teeth break down food into smaller pieces, the tongue pushes food into the esophagus.
-
-
Liver- filters blood coming from the digestive tract, produces bile that aids in the digestive of fatty foods.
Gall bladder- stores bile produced from the liver until it is needed to break down fatty food in the small intestine.
-
-
Respiratory System
Diaphragm- large sheet of muscle located at the bottom of the chest cavity, When the diaphragm pulls down it increases the volume of the cavity, drawing air into the lungs
-
-
Pharynx- carries air, food, and fluid down from the nose to the mouth :
Lungs- a sponge like organ that are good at creating a good surface area, there are more than 6 million alveoli in the lungs
Epiglottis- the flap of skin in the back of your throat, directs food to the esophagus or air to the lungs
Larynx- known as the voice box and contains two membranes that vibrate together to create your voice
-
-
works with circulatory, excretory, nervous, and muscular system
Endocrine System
-
Adrenal- produce hormones that help regulate your metabolism immune system, and blood pressure
Thyroid- big role in metabolism, growth and development of the body
-
-
Ovaries- a female gland which help with breast development, body shape, and hair
-
-
-
Works with circulatory, nervous, reproductive, and skeletal systems
Integumentary System
-
-
-
-
-
nerves- detect sensations, and protect the skin
-
Skin/epidermis- provides a barrier against thermal, physical injury, and mechanical
Urinary/Excretory System
-
-
Kidney- blood enters, passes through millions of tiny filters nephrons, liquid waste carried in blood collects in the nephrons and forms urine.
-
-
Gall Bladder- stores bile produced from the liver until it is needed to break down fatty food in the small intestine.
-
Skeletal system
-
-
-
Works with Muscular, Circulatory, and immune system
-
-
Circulatory System
-
Capillaries- transplant blood, oxygen, and nutrients to cells into the organs and body systems
-
-
-
works with the respiratory, digestive, excretory, lymphatic, immune, nervous, and endocrine systems
Nervous System
-
-
-
-
Brain- 3 main parts, the cerebrum controls the functions like movement, speech, senses and abstract thought. The cerebellum coordinates actions or muscles and helps maintain balance. The brain stem controls involuntary actions such as breathing and heart ratre.
-
Immune System
-
macrophages- normal tissue development, homeostasis, and repair damaged tissue
-
-
Skin-provides a barrier against thermal, physical injury, and mechanical
works with circulatory, lymphatic, skeletal, and integumentary system
-
Muscular System
Smooth muscle- in the stomach and intestines, helps with the digestion and the nutrient collection
Skeletal Muscle- produce the movement of the body, help with posture and position, and maintain the temperature of the body
Cardiac Muscle- responsible for the contractility of the heart, pumping blood throughout the body
-
Works with the skeletal, digestive, respiratory, circulatory, and nervous systems
Lymphatic system
Lymph- liquid part of blood- plasma, when it's in lymph vessels
-
Contain Wbc's- help fight the infection and make chemicals that activate some parts of the immune system
