Human Body
Digestive System: to break down food into nutrients.
Liver
filters blood coming from the digestive tract. The liver produces bile that aids in the digestion of fatty foods.
Stomach
stores food that arrives from the esophagus. breaks down the food with acid and physical churning. Empties into the small intestine.
Esophagus
the stretchy tube that food travels down from the book of the throat to the stomach
Gall Bladder
stores bile produced by the liver until it is needed to break down fatty food in the small intestine.
Mouth
the teeth break down food into smaller pieces. Saliva contains enzymes that begin chemical digestion. the tongue pushes food to the esophagus.
Large Intestine
receives waste from the small intestine. It absorbs any remaining water. Transmits waste for elimination.
Pancreas
secretes enzymes into the small intestine to further break down food.
Rectum
Last section of the large intestine before reaching the anus where waste is expelled.
Circulatory system:Transports materials to and from cells. Also, removes waste like carbon dioxide.
Arteries
Carry blood away from the heart to cells.
Capillaries
Connect arteries which carry blood away from the heart and veins which carry blood back to the heart.
Veins
Return blood and materials to your heart
Red Blood cells
Deliver oxygen and blood to tissues.
Heart
Pump blood throughout the body and to make sure your heart beats. Also, get rid of waste.
Endocrine system:Regulates body activities using hormones. The messages take a long time to reach the body but the response lasts longer.
Thymus
To develop T cells which help immune responses.
Adrenal
Helps with metabolism, immune system, blood pressure, and response to stress
Pituairy
Growth and helps monitor the other glands and organs.
Ovaries
where eggs are produced
Thyroid
To control the speed of metabolism.
Testes
a male reproductive cell that produces sperm.
Hypothalamus
Mange body temperature, hunger and thirst, mood and your blood pressure and sleep.
Respiratory System:move fresh air into your body in exchange for gasses.
Trachea
Carry oxygen to your lungs
Bronchi
Carry air from and to the lungs.
Nose
Sense of smell, filters the air, and cleans the nose from mucus.
Alveoli
Aid in the transport and and exchange of carbon dioxide and oxygen when you exhale and inhale.
Lungs
Allow you to breath
Bronchioles
Carry oxygen to the Alveoli
Nervous System:Gathers information about the body, sends messages throughout the body and helps maintain homeostasis.
Nerves
Coordinates actions and thoughts.
Neurons
Information messengers that are sent by electrical impulses and chemical signals.
Spinal Cord
Nerve tissue that runs from the brain to the lower back and is the place where the brain sends messages to other parts of the body,
Hypothalamus
Mange body temperature, hunger and thirst, mood and your blood pressure and sleep.
Brain
Controls thought, memory, emotion, touch, motor skills, vision, breathing, hunger and thirst, and everything that regulates our bodies.
Muscular system:to help the body move.
Smooth muscle
Helps with digestion and nutrient collection
Skeletal muscle
contract to move, sustain body shape, maintain body temperature, and store nutrients.
Cardiac muscle
responsible for contracting the heart and the pumping of blood through the heart.
Tendons
To move the bone and structure.
Immune system:protect your body from invaders and diseases.
B Cells
Provide antibodies
Skin
Acts as a physical barrier against diseases and other illnesses.
T Cells
Help body fight infections and can fight cancer
Macrophages
Type of white blood cell that surround and kill microorganism, remove dead cells, and stimulate other immune system cells.
White Blood cells
Help the body fight diseases and infections
Reproductive system:to produce egg and sperm cells.
eggs
Make babies are made when combined with sperm
Sperm
Makes babies when combined with an egg and/or eggs.
Ovaries
Make eggs
Penis
excretes urine
Testes
Produce sperm
Vaigna
Helps with the making of babies and transports egg to where the sperm is.
Levels of Organizations
Organs
Organ systems
Tissues
Organisms
Cells
Urinary System:to filter blood and create urine as a waste product.
Urethra
tube that pass urine from bladder to outside of body
Bladder
sac-like structure stores urine until eliminated
Kidneys
blood enters, passes through millions of tiny filters called nephrons.
Skin
largest organ in your body. It serves as an excretory organ when you perspire, ridding, your body of water and salts.
Ureters
long tubes that pass urine out of the kidneys and into the bladder.
Skeletal System:Protect organs, Provides the shape of your body, store minerals, allow movement, and produce red blood cells.
Cartilage
Enhance bones, provide support on bony structures that need to be flexible, and resist compressive forces.
Ligaments
To hold structures together and keep them stable
Bone
Provide shape and support and to protect some organs
