Racism in Sport - Solutions
Solution 1 (Political)
Positives - helps to educate people first-hand about the damaging effects of racism. As a lack of education is one of the main sources of racism, being able to educate people more about why racism is a very serious global issue and how damaging it is, will help society as a whole
Negatives - some people will not take the course seriously and will be disruptive, therefore reducing the effectiveness of the course
For prosecutors of racism to be educated more, they will be required to attend a racism awareness course where they will be taught about the effects and impacts of racism on people and society as well as how there will be severe implications if there is further discrimination

this is an example of a course that prosecutors of racism might be required to do, ideally an elongated version of this course so prosecutors really drive into the depths and understand the issues around racism and discrimination, therefore they are less likely to prosecute again
Solution 2 (Economic)
Positives - People will be more aware and intimidated by the stricter laws, therefore more likely to follow them to racist comments will decrease over time
Negatives - Some people will be more motivated by the harsher restrictions to break the laws, this may also ignite people against the government who inforce this new law and to members of ethnic minorities as well
Increased fines for racism - increasing the punishments so that people are more conscious about what they are saying and how they are treating members of the ethical minorities

this will have sent a message that making comments like this are not acceptable and the heavy fines will force people to be more careful about what they say
Solution 4 (Technological)
Social Media Awareness campaign - spreading awareness of the issue of racism in sport through social media, getting professional sportsmen and women, teams and all people involved within sport to be united and to send the message that racism should not be tolerated
Positives - People are more likely to listen to sports teams they support as well as sportsmen and women who are their idols, which will make the message that they are sending more powerful and meaningful
Negatives - It may have negative effects on players and teams that are trying to send this message across, they might receive threats and be singled out by certain groups

this article supports this solution as it helps to show the effectiveness of a social media campaign 'we saw a 38% drop in social media reports, between the 2019/20 and 2021/22 season.'
Solution 3 (Social)
Positives - Helps to educate children more about the negative effect it's having on people and how it's negatively affecting our society, therefore helping to change the culture that we have in society today
Negatives - Some children who aren't very focussed or interested in school will not listen and possibly do the opposite to be 'rebellious' therefore putting some people more at risk
Make the next generation more aware of the issue, more teaching in schools to change the racist culture throughout society as the next generation will be less tolerant to racism

here are some resources for teachers to help them guide their lessons effectively across several different age groups, which helps the teacher get the most powerful message across
Solution 5 (Legal)
Positives - Gives victims of racism and discrimination the ability to immediately report any form of racial discrimination they recieve, from day to day life to the sports pitch. The message on the app will automatically be sent off to the police to be investigated. This will help people to feel like they have immediate support and a voice so that they can report racism more effectively, meaning people can be prosecuted
Negatives - People may misuse this app and make fake reports of racism, meaning they will be wasting the police's time and therefore reducing the effectiveness, reliability and validity of the report will which reduce how much racim will be stamped out as less reports will be taken forward seriously
https://inar.ie/ireport-app-to-report-racism/
this was an app created to allow people, communities and organisations of Ireland to confidently report racism nationwide, therefore giving people easy access to report racism wherever they are so that it can be investigated and justice can be come to
To help victims of racism report their situations more effectively, an app would help them to report racist behaviour instantly
Solution 6 (Environmental)
Positives - helps to reduce racism at sporting events which will therefore feed into society, by removing people who are racist at all sporting levels it will emphasise the importance that racism in any form is unacceptable at any level, therefore stricter punishments will also help get the message across powerfully
To create a better environment at sports games whether that is professional or grassroots level, all racist comments, slurs, gestures and anything racism related will result in long terms bans for the prosecutor in order to make sport a racism-free envirnoment
Negatives - bans from sporting events sometimes do not stop people from coming from sporting events at a professional level, therefore at community or grassroots level where there is very little security and restrictions it is unlikely to be very effective

here is an example of the Premier League being far less tolerant of racism and increasing the severity of punishments
