- - - - The parents of this young child are mourning yet their child is now free from the horrible life on earth they were living. Of course the parents wish their daughter was back but now she can be in peace and away from the slavery she was once in.
    - - Douglass was able to learn and talk with these young white boys who are too innocent to know the difference between white and black. This quote shows that without the harmfulness of teaching racism, we can all learn from and respect one another.
      - "It need hardly be argued that the Negro people need social leadership more than most groups; that they have no traditions to fall back upon, no long established customs, no strong family ties, no well defined social classes. All these things must be slowly and painfully evolved." - The Talented Tenth by W.E.B Du Bois
        
        Du Bois believed that in order for the African American race to thrive, they must put fourth their most educated and talented men to represent them.

        In the 50's and 60's women were expected to obey men, work from home, and focus on their families. women were shamed for working and had to give up dreams they had since being little girls. Women started to realize that this wasn't the life they wanted and started to speak up. This was a start of a female revolution that still exists today.
      - I see this quote as a great representation of Thoreau’s morals and how he feels about the relationship between the government and the people. I feel that he is trying to explain that we should live our lives with the consequences we deserve and not consequences that are given to us.

        this quote gives the reader the idealistic goal for most people is to buy a home and start a family with this peaceful pretty neighborhood, as an average American family. To me, this is the vision of what the American dream is supposed to be. Your house and family is most important hen creating the ideal life.
    - - This quote shows how someone’s life can change in the blink of an eye in terms of wealth in America. The American dream was built off this idea that if you work hard enough your life can change and you can go from poverty to wealth.
    - - I see this quote expressing the importance of the statue of liberty to immigrants coming in. For us Americans, the statue is merely just a statue but for immigrants it represents freedom and the chance to live the American Dream. The Statue of Liberty holds many dreams of immigrants who come to the U.S. in hopes of being apart of the strength, freedom and hope that this country brings. Seeing the statue for the first time represents a new future and the start of a beautiful life for immigrants.

        This quote shows that although immigrants come to the U.S. for the American Dream, they will always either be their background or "white washed". never both. This reality is hard for biracial people living in the U.S. and often makes trying to live here and make a living harder.

        In this quote, it is clear that Carnegie believes that fighting for change on things that will never happen is a waste of time. Carnegie is talking about the distribution of wealth and how there will always be people who are wealthy and thinking that there won’s be is a waste of thought. He believes that inequality exists and all that remains is how the wealthy use their money and power. No matter what, wealthy people will always exist and at that point there is not much we can do but rely on them to help others.
        
        “Such, in my opinion, is the true gospel concerning wealth, obedience to which is destined some day to solve the problem of the rich and the poor…” - Andrew Carnegie
        
        rich people are responsible for spending their money on poor people to create a better community and narrowing down the gap between rich and poor. He argues that rich people have this responsibility because they are the best people to judge how to help society and he believes that their wealth belongs to society. This quote is important because he is informing people how to reduce economic inequality and what wealthy people should do in order to solve this inequality.

        I feel that this quote emphasizes how important the Jazz Age was to the people of that time and for us today. It promoted so much change and growth that still affects the way we live and think today. This was a time in America where more was better and I feel like that vibe has been brought into the way we live now as well, showing that America will always favor an excess of materials.
        
        “Dr. Dewey said that the deepest urge in human nature is “the desire to be important". -Dale Carnegie
        
        shows how much in society that the best way to get the public eyes on you is through some sort of attraction or desire, an example could be selling something in a way that people can best relate to. Americans value the idea of being important and doing something important. It is what drives us to be the best.
- - - - Children are going to grow up to be our future. They are a product of our environment and the way we raise them with affect the way our world grows and works in the future.

        "I don’t like to look out of the windows even—there are so many of those creeping women, and they creep so fast. I wonder if they all come out of that wallpaper as I did?"
        
        Her staring at the trapped women in the wallpaper is a metaphor for the long history of women who have been silenced and imprisoned in their homes by the wishes of men, and even just voices. For Gilman she opens the question of if every women has gone through the same hurt she has.

        This quote shows women strength and independence during a time where women were disrespected and treated as nothing. This shows that woman are capable of their own decisions.
  - - - This quote is important because it really reflects the way our society acts today. Your personal brand and look on social media revolves around your life and can affect the way you make your everyday decisions. Many times the actions we make are a result of social media and it can take away the part of us that makes us unique.This is a good quote to explain how social media and technology in the U.S. is a growing thing that will always be present in our lives.
