ATOMIC TIMELINE

J.J THOMSON

-
He called "corpucles" the negative charge, but later on he called it as "electron".
ERNEST RUTHERFORD
He set up his now famous "gold foil expeeriment" because he was not convinced about the the model of an atom that Thomson proposed.
He said that there nust be a positive centre of the foil. Later on he called this centre the "nucleus".
-
He stated that the atom was like a mini solar system and that the electrons orbited the nucleus in a wide orbit. That is why it is known as the planetarymodel.
NIELS BOHR
He agree with the planetary model of the atom, but also knew that it had a few flaws.
He was able to answer why the electrons did not collapse into the nucleus. It is because of using his knowledge of energy and quantum physics.
-
He says that the lower the energy of the electron, the lower the orbit.
-
ERWIN SHRODINGER
He was the revolutionary physicist who used Heisenberg's uncertainty principle to came up with the atomic model that we still use today.
