Humanistic Approach

Client-centred therapy
Therapists have to show empathy, genuineness, and unconditional positive regard. They do not tell you what you should do.

Actualisation
Is a difficult process, it is a struggle and is painful but worth it

Strengths :check:
- It has real life applications - it is useful. For example a uniform is used in school to create a community before cognitive needs,
- Relates to the human experience and the individual as unique. For example a homeless person getting food and shelter before making relations.
- Provides helpful therapies. Client-centred therapy is based on these ideas.
Limitations :red_cross:
- Culturally biased against individualistic cultures. For example self actualisation is selfish - other cultures value family more.
- Not scientific - relies on free will and self-reliance. It is not measurable concepts.
- Free will may be an illusion. Skinner thought this - we want it to be correct so we believe in it.
