Week 1
Experimental Design
-
- Sample size- how many individuals are used in the experiment
-
- Efforts are made to reduce confounding variables- variables that the investigators were unable to control for but that can impact the results.
In vitro- study that involves studying cells, tissue cultures, or other parts of a living organism that are grown outside the body in test tubes or petri dishes
In vivo- studies carried out using an entire, intact living organism
- Model organism or human study?
-
-
-
double-blind experiment- neither the participants nor the researcher knows who was placed in the control or experimental group
- Randomization- placing participants either into control or experimental group without any design behind their placement
- Statistical analysis- used to determine any differences between control and experimental groups and not just random CHANCE
-
-
- Correlation or causation?
