Duties prior to arrival

The stevedore inspects cargo as ships get ready to depart port to verify proper stowage and lashing of all cargo
Duties after departure
The agent consults with the ship's master to make arrangements for departure from the port after cargo and port activities are finished.
In order to secure pilots, the ship agent coordinates departure with the ship's master and pilot association.
The agent also communicates with the ship management business about the findings of inspections and certifications.
After departure, the agent collects any invoices owed by consignees who received freight as well as any fines assessed by the ship management company for delays or damage.
