ozymandias
context
ozymandias is a nickname for the Pharaoh Ramses the second
he was a tyrannical leader it links to the aggressive language used like: "sneer" and "mocked"
ozymandias built temples and statues by exploiting slaves, he had the most wives a pharaoh has had
key quotes
"my name is ozymandias; king of kings
"A shattered visage lies"
his face and statue has been destroyed as he will deteriorate just like every other person even if he was very powerful and important
ironic
as he was once powerful however even he can't escape nature
"lies" juxtaposes with the later image of him being on a "pedestal", he has been knocked down and no longer has any power as nature has destroyed him and his legacy will be his violent and cruel leadership not how powerful he was
almost comical as he was so strong but now he is shattered and forgotten and no one is bothering to fix him
"Nothing beside remains.Round the decay."
caesura
- he is all alone now as he has treated others so badly that no one wants to help him in his time of need
represents the futility of human power and how ultimately nature and time will always win
volta
from he being presented as weak to the memories of ozymandias and how he has been built up before being shown for what it actually is: broken
"Decay" connatates something rotten and uncared for and unimportant
