Environmental impacts
-
Fuel transport
-
Oil tankers can have accidents, this accidents can cause oil slicks that are very bad for the sea animals
Electricity generation
-
Nuclear power plants
Nuclear power plants can have accidents that can be very dangerous for people and for the environnment
Nuclear power plants also produce nuclear waste, that is also dangerous
-
Final energy use
Fuels emits gases that are very similar to the gases that are generated by conventional thermal power plants
Waste treatment
-
Waste from nuclear power plants is stored in drums with thick sides for avoiding the radiation to escape. The drums are stored underground or in ocean trenches
-
-
Energy sources
-
Energy sources are natural resources from which we obtain different forms of energy that can be transformed for a specific use
Types
-
-
By use in each country
-
Conventional
Most commonly used in industrialised countries. One example is the energy that comes from fossil fuels
By enviromental impact
Pollutants
Sources that have negative effects in the environment, they are generated by products that severely pollute the enviroment
Clean or non-polluting
Low enviromental impact, it isn´t generated by products that pollute the environment

Electric power plants
Electric power plants are places where primary or secondary energy is transform into energy that is transported to cities, towns or industrial parks
Electrical power plants use an external source of energy to produce electricity. They do this using a turbine-alternator system. The turbine converts mechanical energy into a rotating movement. The alternator has a fixed part, called a stator, and a moving part that is called rotor. The rotor is connected to the turbine shaft. When this moves, the stator´s coils produce alternating electric current
