1891 Wilde met Lord Alfred Douglas
Douglas' father accused Wilde of homosexuality
Went to trial and Wilde was convicted of homosexuality

When Wilde came out of prison in 1897, he was physically and psychologically a broken man
EXILE
exile in France under a pseudonym
wrote The Ballad of Reading Gaol
He died of meningitis in Paris in 1900
lived alone in poverty
