ORGANISIMS IN THE ENVIRONMENT
ABOTIC FACTORS
light intensity
required for photosynthesis and affects the way the plant grown
temperature
affects the rate of photosynthesis
moisture levels
need water for plant to survive
pH or mineral content
affects rate of decay and how fast minerals return back into the soil
BIOTIC FACTORS
food availability
organisms will be able to breed more and population will increase in numbers
new predators
pathogens
pathogens spread around and kills organisms
competition
other species can compete with them which can cause to insufficient breeding
TROPIC LEVELS
producers
make their own food
primary consumers
herbivores eat plants
secondary consumers
carnivores eat primary consumers
tertiary consumers
carnivores eat secondary consumers and they have no predators
decomposers
break down animals dead bodies and waste using enzymes
CARBON CYCLE
respiration
needed for animals and plants to respire and releases carbon dioxide into the atmosphere
photosynthesis
removes carbon dioxide for the air
decomposition
dead plants and animals broken down by decomposers and then carbon dioxide is released back into the air
combustion
plant and fossil fuel get burnt
AIR POLLUTION
sulfur dioxide
released when fossil fuels are burnt
dissolves in water and forms sulfuric acid - acid rain
acid rain makes rivers and lakes acidic which harms the organisms that live there
acid rain erodes buildings which contain limestone
it poisons minerals which is needed for soils to help plants grow but it kills them instead
carbon monoxide
released when fossil fuels go through incomplete combustion
it bind to the haemoglobin in the human blood which then makes the oxygen levels decrease
it was lead to unconsciousness, tiredness and even death
if a woman is pregnant and is exposed to carbon monoxide it affect the growth of the foetus and oxygen levels
GREENHOUSE GASES
water vapour
rivers and lakes
nitrous oxide
engines from vehicles
carbon dioxide
fossil fuels and deforestation
methane
cattle and rice fields
EFFECTS OF GLOBAL WARMING
climate change
water levels due to the rise of glacier
loss of habitats
uninhabitable environments due to climate change which means organisms will have to find a new habitat or they will die
