Types of hazards
Environmental e.g., wet floor, frayed carpet
Biological e.g., used bandage left out, soiled laundry left out, vomit not cleared up
Chemical e.g., unlocked medicine trolley, unlabelled cleaning fluid, hot cooking oil left unattended
Psychological e.g., tiredness due to high workload, stress caused by uncooperative children
Working conditions e.g., noise and disruption, cold and dark bedroom for child
Working practices that are unsafe e.g., long working hours, lack of new supervision, lack of training
Lack of security systems e.g., faulty smoke alarm, broken security chain, lack of interlocking doors in a school

Unintentional abuse
Harm and abuse towards others can also be unintentional, through poor care. For example, a senior care worker who supports an older individual to move position in bed in a careless manner is unintentionally physically abusing that individual.
Intentional abuse
Harm and abuse towards others can be deliberate. For example, a senior care assistant who supports an individual requiring care and support with their shopping and buy items for themselves with the individual' money is deliberately abusing that individual financially.
