        Kohnken et al (1999) - carried out meta analysis where data from 55 studies was combined comparing CI & ECI with standard police interviews
        
        CI gave average 41% increase in accurate information compared with standard interview
        
        shows CI is an effective technique
      - HOWEVER
        
        Kohnken found increase in amount of inaccurate information recalled
        
        particular issue with ECI - produced more inaccurate information then CI
        
        means police should treat EWT from ECI with caution
  - - - not all elements are equally effective
        
        Milne & Bukk (2002) found each of 4 techniques used alone produced more info than standard interview
        
        found using combination of report everything & reinstate context produced better recall than any of the other elements
        
        confirmed police suspicions that some aspects of CI are more useful than others
        
        casts doubt on credibility of the overall CI
  - - - police may be reluctant to use CI as it takes much longer than standard interview
        
        more time needed to establish rapport & allow witnesses time to relax
        
        requires special training which most police do not receive & this may lead to them not using the proper version
