Crime fiction: About a quarter of all TV output is devoted to crime dramas.
There are four categories, these include: violence, property crime, offenders and victims and the police.
-Violence: the motive for murder shown is often greed - whereas in reality, most homicides are from domestic conflicts or brawls.
-Property crime: on TV it is portrayed as more serious than most offences really are, tightly planned, etc.
-Offenders and victims: Crime dramas generally portray offenders as high-status, white, middle-aged males. Victims are similar but a higher proportion are female.
-The police: TV crime generally has high clear-up rate, compared with the official crime statistics - the police usually get the offender. When the police fail it is seen in a positive light, but a tendency to portray corrupt officers
