How do treaties change the relationship between two countries
When two countries/empires sign a treaty, it usually means that both countries would agree on something and would like take action upon signing the treaty, however again, some treaties may be manipulative and would allow the other country/multiple countries to manipulate land and resources which may damage bilateral/multilateral relationships between countries.

Empires conquer/annex land with the intention to share the land with the natives and gain benefits of the land, it could be scrapping resources. selling slaves, assimilating culture and others throughout foreign land. and to do that, empires would use treaties to manipulate the natives into thinking that the empire is here to help/build ties.
Why do treaties form
Treaties form with the idea to potentially share the land between the empire and the natives, this would soon lead to peace, however usually these treaties would be unfair to the natives since the empire would usually want to gain the upper hand in things like resources and trade which or may not be very impactful for the natives.
How are lives changed by treaties
Treaties could be a good thing or a bad thing, its really matters by what laws does the treaty have, for example, a treaty could mean to strengthen defense which would help preserve lives of the country's citizens, or to increase budget of a department like schools or hospitals which again would help lives. these examples do help lives but treaties that allow other countries to manipulate the people and resources would be a very significant change in people's life as they would suffer under the hand of the new law.
