• Regularly engage infants in “conversation”, as early as 3 or 4 months of age, most infants readily participate in verbal interactions with adults. They tend to mimic the intonations (e.g., changes in pitch and stress) that a caregiver uses.
• Let children know when their message is difficult to understand.
• Ask children to recall real events and speculate about fictional ones.
• Encourage creativity in oral language that can be expressed
through stories, poems, songs, rap, jokes, and puns.
