Muhammad was born here

When Muhammad was born Mecca was a religious center

There was an important shrine called the Kaaba where arabs came to worship their gods even year there were a lot of people

Muhammad’s Early Life

Muhammad was orphaned at an early age and he was raised by close relatives

he married a wealthy widowed merchant named Khadijah

he saw greed corruption and violence

Muhammad often retreated to a cave outside Mecca to pray and
reflect

Preaching a New Message

He started to teach in the streets

He told people only to believe in oner god and change many of there behavior

He said that god was the same who had spoken to Abraham

They also feared he would anger the gods they worshiped

The Hijrah

Muhammad and his fellow Muslims fled Mecca then they moved to the town of Midena

Muhammad continued his preaching He became Medina’s political and military

leader The Muslims of Medina fought with the people of Mecca The Meccans tried to

conquer Medina but Muhammad defeated them After several key Muslim victories

Mecca’s resistance crumbled

Muhammad led desert tribes to conquer all

of the Arabian Peninsula quickly the

Muslims united most of Arabia under their

rule Muhammad died but his death did not

halt the spread of his faith
