Indonesia: CARE started out working in Indonesia on food distribution, health, environment, and water and sanitation. After a set crises in the late 1990s such as, a 1997 financial crisis and a widespread drought. They redirected their focus towards emergency programming, including responding to the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami and the 2018 Palu earthquake-tsunami. CARE was one of the first NO's to respond with food, water, and shelter to people after the 2004 tsunami.
