cinderella
part two (plot begins to set in motion due to forces outside mc's control)
setting up the king and his motivation
"son get married, i get grandchildren" find him pretty woman so he can get on with it
the ball is announced, invitations received, "all eligible maidens are to attend", "why! that means i can go too!"
the music lesson: ultimately irrelevant but artistically beautiful scene. number of cinderella bubbles= voices singing harmonies
theres no way in hell LT's going to let C attend the ball. but whats more fun? tell her straight out? or giving her a little bit of hope and getting to torture her slowly as the deadline for fixing her dress edges closer and closer
c's been cool and collected during all of this. she does what shes told and doesn't give them the satisfaction of seeing her react (cry or get angry)
cinderella holds out a TINY bit of hope, but is ultimately almost sure that it's not going to happen
the mice and birds decide that C's done so much for them and suffers so much; they want to do something for her. so they get into shenanigans and risk their lives to make her dress idea a reality.
part one (establish status quo)
"a dream is awish your heart makes"
wake up and feed everybody
get blamed for something that isn't your fault
dealing w/ LT
shudder
punished for something that isn't your fault
the shadows from the window, illusion of cinderella in a cage
part 3 (the conflict is fully instigated)
cinderella rushes downstairs in her new dress, earnestly excited to do SOMETHING fun for the first time since her father passed away, her family is shocked and appalled to see her
lady Tremaine speaks slowly and deliberately, you can see the fear and discomfort on cinderella's face as she approaches her.
tremaine casually points out cinderella's recycled beads and ribbons that her sisters had thrown away. instigating an explosion of rage from her daughters who scream that C's a thief
they destroy her dress, an expression of her friend's love and support, the only love and support she has in her life. they tear it to shreds, screaming in her face while they do.
"girls! girls. I wont have you upsetting yourselves. come along now." right before shutting the door she makes eye contract with C "goodnight."
significant character moment:
c is taunted by LT, she knows that C couldn't possibly had the time to get ready for the ball. "youre not going child?", "oh but there WILL be other times."
c is resigned to her fate. "oh well im sure it would've been dull and boring." trying to convince herself she isn't missing out
"and- and-! completely wonderful" admitting her disappointment but not letting it consume her. ITS OKAY SHES USED TO IT
the mice. finally able to do something nice for their best friend in the world, that feeds and clothes them and asks for nothing in return. bust out with the dress to surprise her
she is amazed and thrilled and so so grateful towards her poor little friends. she recognizes how difficult it must've been for them to do this.
