Anaphora
Definiton: The repetition of a word or phrase at the beginning of of succesive clauses.
Example: "He's still wondering a week later when, suprise of all suprises, Mr.Hart calls him. He's managed to ferret out David's home number ..." Pages 6-7
Epistrophe
Definiton: The repetition of a word at the end of successive clauses or sentences
Example: "
We were close at one time. Had adventures.

Epanalepsis
Definition: Repetition after intervening words
Example: "He was a big man with a big personality..." Page 12
Anadiplosis
Example: "Exactly what?" "What happened." Page 33
Definition: Repetition of the final words of a sentence or line at the beginning of the next.
Asyndeton
Definition: Omission of conjunctions that ordinarily join words or clauses.
Example: "She changed the beds, swept the floors, hauled un coal for the stove." Page 15
Antithesis
Definition: A contrast or oppostion between two things
Example: "I shrugged and gazed across the water to where the lighthouse was standing up on its rock, high and white as truth itself." Page 11
Polysydeton
Definition: Using conjunctions in close succession, especially where some would usually be omitted.
Example: "...which is why my mother would find a couple of fresh-caught bluefish on our front porch some mornings, or a slab of smoke ham nor an apple pie." Page 12
