Definition: A contrast or opposition between two things

Antithesis
Anadiplosis
Definition: repetition of the final words of a sentence or line at the beginning of the next.
pg. 33 "'I might,' he answered. 'And then again, we may never know exactly.' 'Exactly what?'"
Epistrophe
Definition: The repetition of a word at the end of successive clauses or sentences
pg. "We were close at one time. Had adventures. What adventures?"
Epanalepsis
Definition: repetition after intervening words
pg. 59 "I didn't mean to get into what I did, and I know Jeddy didn't either."
Asyndeton
Definition: Omission of conjunctions that ordinarily join words or clauses
pg. 13 "There never was much warmth or fun between us, the way some boys have with their dads, but one thing I was sure of."
Polysyndeton
Definition: using conjunctions in close succession, especially where some would usually be omitted
pg. 12 "He wouldn't take any thanks for it, either, which is why my mother would find a couple of fresh-caught blue fish on our front porch some mornings, or a slab of smoked ham or an apple pie."
Anaphora
Definition: the repetition of a word or phrase at the beginning of successive clauses
pg.6 "He hitches home this time rather than wait for his mother. He's touched on something, he knows it."
