Formative assessments
Help teachers understand students' learning.
It provides teachers feedback to adjust the teaching strategies.
This type of assessment is FOR learning.
They should be short, easy to grade and consistent.
Some examples are: quizzes, group discusions, group projects, entry and exit tickets.

Summative assessments
Summative assessments measure student progress as an assessment of learning. Summative assessments are done after the learning activities or units of study have concluded.
Examples are: Standardized tests, End-of-unit or chapter tests, end-of-term or midterm exams, a final project or creative portfolio.

Performance assessments
Performance assessments measure how well students apply their knowledge, skills, and abilities to authentic problems. It requires the student to produce something.
Some examples of a performance assessments are:

Some examples of a diagnostic assessments are: (short) quizzes, journals, student reflections and interviews, classroom discussions or graphic organizers like flowcharts or mindmaps.

Ipsative assessments
Compare previous results with a second try. It motivates students to set goals to improve their results.
