- - - - Based in Cardiff, 60 AM members. Elections every 4 years of proportional representation. They can speak English or Welsh, publications are in both languages.
      - Has power in 20 areas including, education, health, economic development, housing
      - In 2011 they have been able to pass laws without agreement of UK parliament
    - - Formed in 1999, Edinburgh. 129 members (MSPs). Elected by proportional representation. Can pass laws that aren't agreed by UK parliament
      - Matters on legislation they can pass include: Civil & criminal law, health, educatin, planning, tax raising
    - - Established in 1922 (when Ireland was divded). But abolished in 1972, shiortly after Troubles broke out in 1969.
      - Was established soon after Belfast Agreement (Good friday agrerement) in 1998. 108 members, MLAs (Members of legislative assembley). Proportional representation.
      - Individual registration is used in Northern Ireland, and every eligible voters must complete their own registration form
- - - - (1659-1695) Henry Purcell was organist at Wesminster Abbey. Wrote church music, operas, developed British style distinct from elsewhere in Europe. Influential on British composers.
      - (1695-1759) George Frederick Handel - German born composer. Became a British citizen in 1727. Wrote: Water Music for King George 1, and Music for Royal Fireworks for George 2. These music is still popular. He also wrote oratoria, Meddiah which is sung by choirs often at Easter Time
      - (1874-1934) Gustav Holst - He wrote the Planets, a suite of peices themed around the plants solar system. He adapted Jupiter part of the Planets suite, as the tune 1 vow thee my country. Popular hymn in British churches
      - (1857-1934) Sir Edward Elgar - born in Worcestor England. Best known work is The Pomp and Circumstance Marches. March no 1 (Land of hope and Glory) is usually played at the Last night Proms at the Royal Albert Hall
      - (1872-1958) Ralph Vaughan Williams - worte music for orchestras and choirs, strongly influenced by traditional English Folk music
      - (1902-1983) Sir William Walton - Wrote wide range, film scores to opera. Wrote marches for coronations of King George 6 and Queen Elizabeth 2. Best work is probably Facade, which became a ballet, and Balthazars Feast, which is intended to be sung by a large choir
      - (1913-1973) Benjamin Britten - Best known for Operas, including Peter Grimes and Billy Budd. Also wrote A Young persons Guide to th Orchestra, which is based on a peice of music by Purcell and introduces the listener in various different sections of an orchestra. He founded the Aldeburgh festival in suffolk. Importantly popular in international terms
  - - - (1775-1817) Jane Austen - English novelist. Her books include Pride and prejudice & Sense and Sensibility, concerns with marriage and family relationships. Her stuff has gone into TV
      - (1812-1870) Charles Dickens - Wrote a number of famous novels. Including Oliver Twist and the Great Expections. There are references in every day talk in some of the characters like Scrooge (a mean person), or Mr Micawber (always hopeful)
      - (1840-1928) Robert Louis Stevenson - Wrote books which are still read by adults and children today. His famous books include Treasur Island, Kidnapped and Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde
      - (1840-1928) Thomas Hardy - was a Scottish doctor and writer. He was best known for stories about Sherlock Holms & was one of the first fictional detectives
      - (1922-1995) Evelyn Waugh - English novelist and poet. Wrote more than 20 novels. Most well-known Lucky Jim
      - (1922-1995) Sir Kingsley Amis - Wrote novels often influence by his religious beliefs including, The heart of the Matter, The Honorary Consul, Brighton Rock, and Our Man in Havana
      - (1965+) J K Rowling - Wrote Harry Potter, series of childrens books. Which was enjoyed a huge international success. She now writes fiction for adults as well

    - - Easter occurs betwen March and April. It commemorates the cruxifixion of Jesus Christ on Good Friday and his resurrection of Easter Sunday
      - The day before Lent starts is called Shrove Tuesday, or Pancake Day. People eat pancakes, which were traditionally made to use up foods such as eggs, fat and milk before fasting. Lent begins on Ash Wednesday.

        Anne of Cleves - German Princess, married for political reasons, was soon divorced
        
        Catherine Howard - Cousin of Anne Boleyn, also accused of taking lovers and executed
        
        Catherine Parr - Widow who married Henry later in life, she survived him, and married again, but died soon after
