        Willy explains to Linda that his weight is one factor in why he doesn't feel respected by other people. As a result of his embarrassment over his appearance, Linda affirms it by describing him as the "handsomest man in the world" (page 24). Here, Linda's devotion to Willy is manifested in a way that goes beyond wealth or achievement. This is further emphasized in the scenario where they understand that they would still run into some financial difficulties. She adores Willy just as he is, but his anxiety over his weight also illustrates his belief that, in the end, he must offer himself as a salesman.
      - Fufielment but at what cost
        
        When Linda initially appears in the flashback, she is younger and asks Willy how much money he made on his trip. When he first says he made a lot of money, Linda calculates his commission and is thrilled by the big amount. Then Willy backtracks, lowering the demand to a sum that is nearly totally covered by the debt the family owes on its automobile and appliances.
        
        "Well, next week you'll do better." (page 23)
        
        Willy lies once more in this instance, demonstrating his desire to present a successful persona. Linda's enthusiastic answer also demonstrates her readiness to trust him despite his exaggerations. Linda encourages Willy, stating, "Well, next week you'll do better"(page 23) despite the fact that his family has been enslaved to his ideal of material satisfaction due to the never-ending payments on their things.
    - - Biff makes the error of labeling his father crazy in another scenario where Willy is talking to himself and becomes unpredictable and angry. Linda informs me that her spouse is now going through a terrible time in his life at this same moment. Despite this, she emphasizes that "he is a human being" and requires "Attention, attention must finally be paid to" (page 40).
        
        Unlike the other characters in the play, Linda views Willy as a hero, despite the fact that his achievements may seem modest or even pitiful to others, Linda sees them as great because of his humanity. This is demonstrated by Linda's comment that Willy never "made a lot of money" or had his name "in the paper" (page 40). Though she acknowledges that Willy isn't a "great man" (page 40), Linda criticizes the manner that Willy's devotion to the American Dream literally burnt him out and made everyone around him ignore him. The most blatant example of this is how Biff and Happy have betrayed Willy in Linda's eyes by calling him crazy or failing to take his mental status seriously.
      - Act 2 begins with Linda informing Willy that Biff is en route to visit Bill Oliver. Willy informs Linda that he wants to buy some seeds and start a garden in the backyard since he is excited by the prospects of Biff's possible success. Although Linda is ecstatic to see Willy in such a good mood, she jokingly points out that their yard doesn't receive enough sunlight to maintain a garden. Willy quips by they'll just have to find "a little place out in the country,"(page 53). Willy answers to Linda's laughing remark by expressing even more lofty ambitions, demonstrating that Linda is more practical than Willy and, in a manner, wants him to scale back his impossible goals.
        
        She also advises him to get an advance to pay their last 25-year house mortgage payment, as well as their refrigerator payment and Willy's life insurance cost. He concurs. Linda's reassurance to Willy to approach Howard Wagner about a paid, non-traveling employment in New York shows that his aspirations can never outweigh his financial reality. However, Joe and Linda will almost certainly achieve the American Dream of home ownership since, after their final payment, the property will be theirs. But Willy doesn't appear to care. As seen by Willy asking "What purpose?" (page 54) did the home serve, he is already daydreaming about more.
