Reflection

virtual collaboration, conflict management, group leadership, decision-making, your confidence or trust,

Choose four relevant concepts and theories from Topic 6: Groups & Teams to analyse your group work experience.

How did the group interact

How were group's emotions or concerns voiced and managed?

how did the group discuss and work through the task? What were the group discussions like?

Group norms

How did decision-making and leadership affect the group’s task performance?

What was your role/contribution to the group? Did you take on a leadership role or why not?

What inspired you to not/collaborate or not/contribute to the group?

As the first person to post my introduction on the discussion board, I knew I would attract other conscientious students. In my introduction, I wrote, "I am a hard worker and want this to be reflected in my teammates". I was also transparent with the fact I was aiming for a HD.

According to Wood et al. (2019), group norms are the "standards of behaviour that group members are expected to display" (p. 223).

Our group was full of strong communicators which aided excellent interaction. Between us we were studying HR, education and communication which are all professions that require first-rate collaboration skills.

I got the ball rolling with the discussion board and this leadership role flowed over to the first meeting in which I created the Agenda. It was clear in the first meeting that Merrin and Hannah also had strong leadership qualities, and I took a step back. From then on, the group chose to interact with more of a collective leadership style. Holly was the one member who was still early in her degree and lacked confidence. Therefore, I made sure she was encouraged to contribute to the group, considering the rest of us are confident personalities. For example, I requested Holly be in charge of setting up all Zoom meetings and ensured she was given equal work.

Our group norms were established early on the discussion board and in our first meeting. Our group were all guided by being: diligent, respectful, collaborative, empathetic and constructive.

Hannah works in communication and was very quick at setting us up with a google drive. We used this throughout to upload all relevant documents. My last group assessment???

To begin, I was concerned that there would be conflict between Hannah and Merrin. Once I identified that the group all had strong leadership skills, I took a step back. However, Merrin was reluctant with the collective leadership style. Her generation?????

Merrin pushing for her layout of the report. Holly and I were felt we should stick with a conventional style. Holly did not say too much.
