【W15】LEO Satellities
Future
In 2020, the global space economy reached $371.3 billion.
It is estimated that by 2040, the global space economy will reach $1 trillion. The satellite industry accounts for 88%, $925.2 billion.
The number of global satellite launches in a single year has exceeded 1,000
More than 1,700 satellites are expected to be launched from 2022 to 2030 per year
How can Taiwan join this business
Develop Beamforming chip
Ministry of Economic Affairs cooperate with more than 10 companies, and wish to launch the first made in Tawian LEO Satellitie before 2025
producing ground equipment
The next 5 to 10 years will be a period of rapid development of low-orbit satellites
Replacement of Old Satellites and space Garbage Problem
Can the government control people anymore?
Leo Satellite
What is Leo Satellite ?
an orbit that is relatively close to Earth’s surface
altitude of less than 1000 km but could be as low as 160 km above Earth
History of Leo Satellite
LEO technology began to take shape in the early 1990s
What is the function of Leo Satellite ?
Telecommunication
Spying
Communication
Military reconnaissance
What Benefits do LEO Satellites Bring?
less expensive and less complicated
not stuck in the same, slow moving position.
How are LEO Satellites Used Today?
an astronomical pace
with a wide variety of missions across industries.
crises and natural disasters
Professional words
reconnaissance
military observation of a region to locate an enemy or ascertain strategic features
SpaceX
Project Starlink
a satellite constellation system that aims to deliver global internet coverage.
best suited for
rural and geographically isolated areas where internet connectivity is unreliable or nonexistent.
what is?
(Space Exploration Technologies Corp). privately held rocket and spacecraft company
Funded by Elon Musk and founded in 2002
How does it work?
Instead of using cable technology fiber optics to transmit internet data
radio signals through the vacuum of space.
Ground stations broadcast signals to satellites in orbits
then relay the data back to the Starlink users on Earth.
where is it available?
36 countries with limited coverage areas.
planning to expand to the rest of the continental U.S by the end of 2023
no current plans to offer services to several countries
Russia, China, Cuba, and North Korea
SpaceX vs Kuiper
Starlink already has about 2,000 satellites in orbit
serving about 250,000 total subscribers
with FCC approvec, SpaceX planning to launch a total oif 12.000 satellites
Amazon has yet to launch any
signed a multi-billion dollar contract with three rocket companies to send its satellites to space.
Project Kuiper
What Is Project Kuiper?
Project Kuiper is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world.
Scaling for space
The team has to overcome many technological and design obstacles as they ramp up production. “At peak, we’ll be building up to four satellites per day to meet our ultimate goal of completing the Kuiper network,” Palcisco said, noting that some facilities can only build that many satellites in a year.
Ground control
That journey begins with the people working on Project Kuiper, which attracted professionals from diverse backgrounds. who have a lot of space experience, but we've also got folks who come from industries like aerospace and automotive, where mass production is really a core competency,”Palcisco said.
Internet for everyone
Aerospace in general is a very well understood industry that's been developed over many years, Palcisco said. creating processes that haven't been done before, we iterate on those processes, and we decide what's the best for the satellite as that vehicle gets built and launched into space.
The reason why MODA want to accept spectrum license
strengthen cybersecurity capabilities
promote development of the digital economy in the new era
to avoid cyberattacks from china
Moda
What is Moda
is responsible for promoting Taiwan’s overall digital policy innovation and reform.
Minister Audrey Tang
is Taiwan’s digital minister in charge of moda (Ministry of Digital Affairs).
Main functions
