Situation Ethics - Coggle Diagram

- - - - For example- The story of Mrs Bergmierer whoms story the church would be against. Mrs Bergmeier was in a concentration camp during WW2 whilst her husband and children were Germany. The only way to get back to them would be by getting pregnant by a guard. By commiting 'adultery' she was able to return to her family whom treated the child called Dietrich as their own
      - There are 3 ways to make desicions
        
        -Legalism- Over reliance on applying endless ridgit rules and laws (Fletcher is against this)
        -Antinonism ((Greek)- Existentialism)- Having no rules- rejection of all moral law/ individuals make their own religion (Fletcher is against this)
        -Situationism- Always showing Agape love
      - Agape love is Christian love. All of the teachings of Jesus are around 'love thy neighbour'- Agape (unconditional love)
        Love is sp concrete and absolute that in everytghing its the same and so powerful
        
        What did Tilich say?
        -'The law of love is the ultimate law because it os the negotiation of law.' Everything is concrete 'love can never become fenatical in a fight for the absolute, or cynical under the impact of the relative'
        What did Temple say?
        -Only one ultimate and inuacriable duty, and its formula is 'Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thy self'. How to do this is another question, but this is the whole of moral duty.
        What did Bultman and Robinson say?
        -Biship John Robinson- 'there is no one ethical system that can claim to be Christian' and Rudoplf Bultmann agruged that Jesus had no ethics apart from 'love thy neighbours thyself', which is the ultimate duty. Joseph Fletcher follows in this tradition. Agape love is the highest end.

        -Fletchers theory is teleological- looks to the end, the most loving end rather than being locked into laws
- - - - Overall, I mostly disagree with Situation Ethics. Situations, love and morals are far too subjectve and individualistic for Situationism to be a morally driven principle especially when for Fletcher- the 'most loving thing to do' is only the answer from a person of authority. However, it is based off of love which is a natural human emotion and is the key feature in the moral systems and the one principle of Agape is easy to understand as it takes into account tough desictions that take place in our complicated human lifes. But, morals and Agape are too subjwctive- situationism can encourage immoral actions due to twisting of the principle and people need laws and rules for morals.
