Body 6 Howard - Coggle Diagram

    - - When he informs Willy there is no place for him at the New York office, he is unwilling to take the fact that Willy and his father have a personal relationship into consideration.

        By his first name drop Willy mentions that Howard doesn’t takes acount Willy’s achivements for his company, which Willy is naturally frustrated.
        
        “Howard, he don’t appreciate.” (Page 4)
        
        Moreover, information regarding to Howards father Frank Wagner is given, who established the business Willy works for. In Willy’s words Frankl had a completly oposite personality compared to Howard. Willy describes Frank as “a prince “ and “a masterful man.”(page 4), which not only indicates Willy’s liking twoards Frank it also represents the good relationship he had in the past. This factor will be important with his encounter with Howard, since his Ideal of having respectful relationship for succsesful busnies will be chalanged. However, currently he mentiones that his good relationship with Frank would have lead Willy a brighter future, which is showen by “I’d a been in charge of New York now!” (Page 4). It also repeates his the relationship ıdeology , which he added to his understanding of American Dream.
      - Act 2
        
        By the didaskaloses from the play given Howard’s low aprition for Willy is repeated agian by his movment of only “glances over his sholder”(page 56) to look at Willy as he apears.
        
        Even though Willy tries to iniciate the converstation, Howard consistenlt interapts him to boost his ego by showing his new Wire recorder and also showing his succsesful family relationships, which indicates he is more rich and a better father then Willy is.
        
        Willy’s interaptions are evident by the usage of questions like “talk a minute?” (Page 57). He also awnsers Howards boasting positivly by saying “You’re very good!” (Page 57), which reiforms that Howard has the athority.
        
        His prase for his family is showen by the recording from the machine, which gives examples of every member’s qualities. As an example Howard’s son is able to say every capital of every state in USA., which is strenghted by the fact being he is “Five years old” (page 57).
        
        The converstation truely starts after Howard retoricly asks that Willy supposed to be in Boston.

      - The advice for Biff to achive Oliver’s attention
        
        Here Willy gives some advice to Biff in order to have Oliver’s attention to the new salse pitch. In his recomandations he resates the importance of having a loveable personality for froming a healthy relationship. It’s also a forshadowing for both Biff and Willy, which will end up in faiulire. Biff would not be able to start his pitch, because of his anxiety and understanding of his Identity, which is not doing anything related to being a salseman. For Willy however, he will do all of these bullet points step by step to convince Howard to give him a different position. This will also end with a faiulire. Every recomandation he gives will back fire with a huge force.

        “no spot here for you.”(page 60)
        
        Although Willy idealizes these sorts of relationships and believes that being nice and dependable is the secret to success, that notion is refuted in this situation. Willy's relationship with Howard's father aligns with Willy's notions about how businesses operate, but for Howard, who is more focused on making money than enjoying his past, this just isn't that significant. Willy's hopes are so dashed and betrayed by the very things he was counting on.
        
        Willy politely suggests that Howard rethink his stance, but Howard declines. Willy brings up how he helped Howard's father pick his name when he was a newborn to make things more cordial. This not only conflicts with Willy's previous personality theories, but it also demonstrates how callous and self-centered Howard is by the simple sentence of “no spot here for you.”(page 60) Howard doesn't respect Willy and treats him patronizingly despite the fact that he is younger than Willy, as evidenced by his use of the phrases "everybody's got to pull his own weight" and "it's a business, kid" on page 60. These phrases minimize Willy's value as a hard worker and reveal his selfish business philosophy, which runs counter to Willy's American Dream.
        
        Falsicifaction of Willy’s Ideals through story telling

        By the play’s mention of Willy “despertly”(page 60) trying to use his tactics agian By telling a story. shows that himself and his Ideals are losing against the cold reality of the world.
        
        Willy first encountered Dave Singleman in the narrative when he was a little boy. Dave was a wealthy traveling salesman with a wealth of motivational tales. He inspired Willy to aspire to work as a salseman, as seen by Willy's continued admiration following Dave's passing. The fact that Dave was revered after his death, which Willy saw as the passing of a real traveling salesman, is what matters most. The fact that "hundreds of salesmen and buyers were at his funeral" is more evidence of this. (Page 61) This irony is heightened by Willy's own approaching death, which also involves a salesman's passing, exactly like Dave's, yet Willy is mostly forgotten about.
        
        Inpersonal
        
        Additionally, Willy uses this methophor “a man is not a piece of fruit!” (Page 62), which he connects to “throw the peel away”. This methopohor shows perfectly the new inpersonal way of buisness, which is counter to human relationships and devaluing humans as if products that are interchanable. This burst of emotion is the last hope he has regarding to his ideals actually working, however ultimatley he loses against Howard. Thus, throug the interections between Howard and Willy the failure of the American Dream is clearly stated by Howards power and refusel of Willy’s request.
  - - - "Adonis, in Greek mythology, beautiful youth beloved by Aphrodite and Persephone."
      - Aphrodite and Persephone couldn't share the boy and both tried claim him for themselfs.
      - This symbolises the fact that Willy thinks his boys are so beloved (and will be beloved) that nobody would able to share them. In other words the refrence highlights Willy's overexatureted outlook on his sons and on the Idea of having good relationships.
      - Additionaly, the fact that Adonis also was "symbolic of the yearly cycle of vegetation, were widely celebrated in ancient Greece" , which indicates that Willy also thinks they will be extremly succsesful. Tis connection could be made by the "cycle of vegetation", which indicates a constant product.
    - - “The body of the laborer is used up or wasted at accelerated rates in order to secure the most profit. Those who have work could be esaily be disposed of and en up as part of the permanent surplus population as well.” (Page 1980)
      - These sentences from Michelle Yates's paper makes Howard's aproch twoards Willy even more clear.
